Windows98SE shutdown problems HELP ME

i have reinstalled windows98 form new for virus problems
after a complete format of my HD.
Now my o/S is workink exept in the shutdown operation.
When from start i will shutdown the PC i have a complete
black page on the monitor and when i switch off and on
windows id starting always the scandisk
How can i solve the problem?
Please help me

i thank you very much for your help.
Now it seem the problem is solved.
The only remaining thing is that if i shutdown the PC with the option
"Restart"  the PC restart but the it don't reconize the primary slave (hard
disk) and if i switch the PC the Bios windows is appearing saying that the
system hasn't reconized the Pentium III speed (600 MHz).
I need to restart another time and the system finally work.
May you suggest some solution?
May i modify some thing of the bios?

i don't do nothing.I have only updatet the BIOS and now it seems working
everythings
