I have formated the hard drive. I insert my Microsoft boot disc & Windows 98
CD-Rom. I select "1. Start Windows 98 Setup from CD-ROM". Then the I get
the following:" This driver is provided by Oak Technology, etc..." But once
I get to this line " Device Name : OEMCD001" nothing else happens. The
cursor stays to the right of "1". Any suggestions? I have tried reinstall
by changing the BIOS to read the CD-ROM first, but no luck.

You may have a faulty boot disk. Make a new one. You can download a program
to create one from www.bootdisk.com.
Once you get a good boot disk, you will have to manually launch setup from
there. How to do it depends on what letter the disk assigns to your CD-ROM
drive. For example, if it assigns D: to the drive (it will tell you on the
screen), then you need to type:
D:\SETUP

The floppy drive, not the CDRom, needs to be the first boot device in the
BIOS. You can make a floppy boot disk with the Fat32ebd.exe file located on
the W98 CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd or you can download one here:
http://www.bootdisk.com/
