I bought a MS basic optical mouse.  Then I downloaded the latest
Inttelimouse driver.  The whole thing made the mouse go wild, all over
the screen, has no stability.

Hw can this be remedied?

You can use the generic mouse driver -- if uninstall MS Intellimouse
Driver (Control Panel -- Add/Remove Programs).

Not sure, but probably you selected the wrong mouse model while
installation, when had been asked about what type of mouse you use.

Forgot to say that if you can't enter Control Panel because of this
mouse behavior -- you can either use keyboard to do the job (press Win
key, and use cursor keys, Enter key and TAB key after that), or remove
this driver in Safe Mode.
