Blue screen said that it was low on memory. I deleted some files and then did
a defrag and scandisk. My partner started to surf the internet without
restarting it (i.e no anti-virus or firewall or anything) While he was on
there, the DOS screen came up saying 'INVALID SYSTEM DISK'. I have a start
up disk but don't want to
do anything that will prevent recovery of my files. do you think that I
would be able to do scan disk using the start up disk? I followed the
instructions on the start up disk help menu...scan disk knows there is an
error on C: drive. It can repair the files and directories but says it might
have to delete the filename information for some of the files or
subdirectories in this directory. The affected files or subdirectories will
be given new filenames (for example, FIL0000.CHK) and saved in the root
directory of the drive...what do I do?
If the files are that important to you, you immediately turn the computer
off and seek professional assistance in recovering the files. If you try to
fix the disk using CHKDSK the changes it makes will be permanent and most
likely catastrophic.
