If you have a Umax scanner (or clone) then try:

Record ID: SC00049: How do I resolve the error message 'vmm32.vxd
missing' upon boot up of Win95/98?
http://www.umax.com/support/knowledge/search.jsp?docs=SC00049&SRCHkeywords=vmm32

or:

VMM32.VXD is required to run Windows. If this file is not in
your PATH, you may need to reinstall Windows.

In microsoft.public.win98.setup, acolcheia
