resoloution only 640x480 ? help please

I have just bought a win98 tower, and it has a net-lynx pci card in it, I do
not know a lot about computers, but should this not allow me to get 800 x
600 resoloution. I tried using an ATI card from an old motherboard, but upon
Boot-Up the hard drive just beeped a few times, and froze... Can anyone help
me out... is it something to do with the fact that in 1 of the logs, it says
re' devvices and dll's that load..... 'loading vnet2sup or ndis2sup failed'
?
Any help is appreciated..
