My husband and I are building our first computer from the ground up and it
has been serious rough going!  We were both wondering how much hard disk
space needs to be partioned for all of the Windows 98 components to properly
load on our system?  We have a 10GB hard drive and plenty of RAM, but
everytime we get to the "Installing Windows 98" screen, we get an error
message saying that we don't have enough disk space, a virus (which we are
100% sure we don't have) or some sort of corrupt CAB file.  Help!!  We both
are about 3 steps away from taking a sledge hammer to it.
Thanks
Susan

Not enough info since its not an already-determined work with windows PC.

RAM=?MB
RAM modules compatible with each other?
RAM timing compatible with PC?

Sometimes a PC that works fine  in msdos from boot diskette, shows its
ugly-side when attempting to install windows for the first time.  Many
times, its of I/O origin.  Laying somewhere in the CD-RAM-CPU-RAM-HD loop.
In worse cases, it can show up if you copy the CD contents to the HD
(CD-RAM-HD), then attempt install from there.  HD-RAM-CPU-RAM-HD.

You need to partition the harddrive and then format the partition prior to
starting installation.

How much space do you need for a win98SE installation ??

Depends on how you like to manage your application and data. Windows itself
only need a few hundred meg. However, most application installs on the
windows partition and most data is saved by default to the windows
partition.

In your case I would make the windows partition about 8Gb and then generate
an extended partition for the remainder. In the extended partition generate
a logic drive with the remaining hard drive space.

Format the partitions and install win98SE

Please post the error message verbatim.

I'm with Jon, make your primary partition slightly under 8 gb to get the
maximum filing efficiency and create an extended/logical partition for the
remainder of the drive space.
