type 'fdisk'
delete partition (i dont remember what option number i did this through-
obviously this is what i did wrong...)
i didnt make a disk or anything, is this fixable...could i make the disk
from my (xp) laptop and then use it on the win 98 pc...?

LOL! Sorry, I just had a mental image of a cartoon character erasing
himself. Think about it.
Assuming you had one partition, the one upon which Windows was installed,
you left yourself with a blank disk and no way to continue installation. You
got bad advice for that FDSIK operation. It worked, but it then left you
hanging. Regardless, yes, you need to get yourself a Windows Startup floppy
disk in order to continue.
Yes, you can use the XP machine to create a floppy Startup disk, with all
the tools you need to prepare the system for Setup. But you'll have to
download a program to do it from www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Either Win98
disk will do. Download the EXE onto the XP machine, then run it to create
the floppy disk.
Boot the 98 machine to the floppy Startup disk and then run FDISK again.
Clean up whatever's left on the HD, if necessary, then create a new
partition (or partitions). Restart however many times you are prompted to do
so. Finally, after the last restart, do the following. (You'll want to note
what letter you CD drive is, since it changes depending on the type of
Startup floppy you use. I'll use the most common e:, but you may need to
change that.)
format c: /s
When that finishes:
c:
md Win98
e:
cd win98
copy *.* c:\win98
(Note that you are to press <Enter> at the end of each of those command line
above, and be careful about spaces and punctuation.)
Once the copy job is finished, eject the floppy Startup disk, then press
Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart. At the C:\> prompt:
cd win98
setup
Windows Setup should then launch.

Put the startup diskette in the floppy drive. Turn off the PC and unplug
from the wall. Turn it on again, and don't forget to plug it in. Bear with
me and humor me.
If same error occurs, do you have access to your bios setup from the PC when
booting as noted above?
That is, prior to the error message.

Start the computer and watch the screen carefully for something like
"Press delete for setup". Press the appropriate key, find "Boot
Sequence" and change it to "A:,C:". Be sure to save the change
when exiting. Then try the boot disk.
