My computer stopped working and I received the error message saying (not
exactly): "Can't find essential system file" and then the more specific
message:  "can't find:   lmouse.drv".

I have my original Windows 98 CD and a startup floppy and I used them to go
through the Windows reinstall process.  Same error message when I finished.

I have the CD for my Logitech Optical Mouse.  How would I find "lmouse.drv"
there and if I do find it how can I reinstall it so Win98 can find it?

Lmouse.drv is a Logitech file.
Why not just use the Logitech CD and reinstall the drivers or
software?

Insert the Logitech CD and see if it autoruns.  If so, follow the on screen
prompts.  I don't use a Logitech mouse so I cannot give specific
instructions.

Sometimes the W98 files have been written to the hard drive.  Do a find on:
win98_24.cab and if found, note its location on the drive.  Then when the CD
is called for, browse to that location.  If they are not on the hard drive,
then you are out of luck.  You can try to pick up a used copy of W98 on
EBay.  If you have a Compaq or HP PC, then you are probably totally out of
luck since both PCs use customized versions of W98.
