This PC has been Formated. Can anyone tell me what operating system it had
and where to get a OEM disk to get it going again. All I want it for is
internet and e-mail
Thank You

1. Formatting the PC removed its operating system --
so no one can tell you what the OS formerly was.
2. For use solely for email and Internet browsing,
almost any version of Win95 or Win98 will meet your
needs. Microsoft no longer sells these but you may
find them on eBay or at other vendors.

Hi Don
Compaq and HP PCs are notorious for not being able to run right unless they
have a specially tailored version of W98 that was tweaked for the particular
PC. I just worked on an HP that had the HP restore CD and a generic OEM SE
Updates CD that were furnished by HP. The machine worked fine with W98FE
(restore CD) but does not when the SE Updates is installed (hangs on
shutdown and then will not boot). I'm afraid you may be leading the person
astray by saying almost any version of W95/98 will work.
