How do I get a new one? The computer is already restored. I can't get it from
the registry.
US customers can contact Microsoft at: 1 800 642-7676. They will issue
retail and OEM product keys after verifying data located on the W98 CD.

WOW............................... :( I must REALLY be an idiot....ok
this is getting me nowhere....first off, for some reason I can't seem to
start a new question - it never gets to a place where I can enter the body of
the question. SOOOOOOOOO, I simply tagged onto this question as a reply in
hopes that someone will see my question and respond. Here goes.....
We have purchased a used computer and the prior registered owner's name
keeps popping up in documents. How do we edit this to get OUR name as the
registered owner & thus have it come up in our files, etc.......?
Thank you and I hope this isn't a waste of time...mine & yours.
Sincerely,
Terri NO LONGER LOST IN THE SAFE MODE LOOK (yes, I couldn't seem to get away
from this label EITHER) ~ these are the kinds of things that will make a
person LOSE their ever-loving mind !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :}

Start menu, run and type: regedit and click OK. When the registry
editor opens, click on edit and select find. Search on the person's name
exactly as it appears. When found, right click it and select modify--enter
your name. To continue the search, press F3. This will take care of the
person's name in the system; however, other programs may have the person's
name entered in it. It would have been helpful to know exactly what
documents are involved so I could have given any other required
instructions.

Ditto what Ron stated.
If by "documents", you mean MS Word documents, MS Word stores the user name in its
options. The exact location varies slightly depending on what version of Word you
use, but usually: open Word, click Tools menu> Options> User Information
tab....change the info and click OK.
