I have an Ibm clone that I recently purchased and somehow it has dropped the
winit.exe in the startup, as a result it shuts down as soon as it starts
opening windows.
I do not have a win 98 disk but the disk has been copied to the hard drive
how can I restore the missing file since windows will not open?
I have a rescue disk but am uncertian how to do this.

Standard installations of Win98 have no file named WINIT.EXE
Run a virus check.

winit.exe? That is a file added by a variant of W32.Mugly.A worm. Are you sure
that is the name of the file in question?
Where are you seeing this file name? Are you getting an error message? Please
provide the exact error messages word for word.

See Bill Watt's reply to your thread in this group, about using EXT from a floppy
boot, to extract a new copy of wininit.exe to the Windows folder on your C: drive,
from the Win98 folder on your Windows CD.
