My old Windows 98 laptop mentioned in my previous message fails to
recognise my USB stick.
I found the driver at manufacturer's website (http://cnmemory.com), but
the driver installation process (I tried different options) keeps going
round in circles.
Is this a general problem with USB sticks under Windows 98 (first
edition), or might a USB stick from a different manufacturer behave better?

Yes, there is a general problem with Win98 first edition and USB
support.
Win98 SE has better support and is often specified as the minimum for
a USB device. Check with the requirements. If Win98 SE is needed, then
get an upgrade to Win98 SE from eBay or one of the larger online
stores.

Hi Alan,
funny you should mention eBay - I just put in a bid for a Win98 SE CD a
few minutes ago :-)
Thanks

It's more an issue of USB support in Win98 "Gold" than anything else. I
strongly doubt you're going to find many USB devices, especially modern
ones, that will run on Win98 Gold. Second Edition would likely solve the
issue, though.

Thanks, I'll report back once I have Win 98 SE installed.
