I've formatted the hard drive on my old computer to reinstall win98 but find
that I've lost my product key. Has anyone any ideas on how to overcome this
problem? I would very much appreciate a swift response because I'm passing on
the pc to a young nephew who is anxious to get going!
Many thanks in anticipation.

US customers can contact Microsoft at:  1 800 642-7676.  They will issue
retail and OEM product keys after verifying data located on the W98 CD.

Thanks Ron, but I'm in UK does that make a difference?

Can you use an 800 number from the UK?  If so, you are good to go.

If not, I don't think you would want to pay for a call to Redmond, WA for
the product key.  I recommend you contact MS in the UK; however, I don't
have any contact numbers for you.

Unfortunately 800-numbers are only national in scope - so numbers for the US
will lead to totally different places if dialled from the UK.
I spent some time attempting to find an equivalent page and number for the
UK, and was unable to - I'll ask around and see what I can find out.

Many thanks for your input, Noel, but thanks to linesman -who kindly gave me
a key-the problem has gone away.  I really do appreciate the kindness of all
who have given me help and advice. I hope that sometime I'm able to
reciprocate.

You do realise that you are now technically running an illegal copy of
Windows?

Hi Noel,

Didn't think it would work; however, the last time I was in the UK (1969)
800 numbers and MS didn't exist so there was no chance to test it <G>.  If
you do come up with a contact number, please let me know.
