Hi,
I'm volunteer in an association which offers accesses to two Win98
boxes connected to Internet. Theses machines have been setup few years
ago, and there's now no documentation available on their setup :(

I would like to install Firefox 1.5 and OpenOffice 2.0 (they have an
old IE 5.1 and MS Office 97) but after each reboot, everything I have
installed during a session is cleared!!!

Does anyone know what can do the reset? Something in the BIOS? A
program at startup? I think it's a useful future to avoid anyone
messing up these public machines. But we should be able to do some
updates, like to IE 6, FF 1.5, OOo 2.0, etc.

Any help will be appreciate. If you have no direct response, a useful
pointer will be appreaciated too.

You need to find what software has been installed to protect the system.
The software will be accessible using a password.  You  disable it before
starting the installation, then enable it when you've finished. Have look in
the Program Files folder.
