Hello:

Does anyone know how to do the following in setting up Win98?  When I right
click on the desktop
there is a menu that opens which has a choice "NEW" and that then includes
the option to click on creating a new folder or running a number of
programs.  I would like to add a program as a choice to the choices of
programs which are now offered to run. Can someone help me per instructions
for doing that? Thanks.

You can manipulate the NEW items with TweakUI

Tweak UI 1.33 for Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows Millennium
Edition, Windows 98 or Windows 95.
Details at: (may wrap)
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp
or
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q237/9/20.ASP
Download at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/winme/Install/1.0/WinMe/EN-US/Tweakui.exe

Rightclick-NEW does not run programs. It is to create new file type
items based on templates.

Note - there are a few cautions with TweakUI:-
1) Do *not* change the first icon from "My Documents" on the Desktop tab
2) Do *not* uncheck: Search Results on the Desktop tab
3) Do *not* hide the Tweak UI icon on the Control Panel tab
4) Do *not* uncheck: Show Control Panel on Start Menu on the IE tab
5) Do *not* uncheck: Shell enhancements on the IE tab
6) To move "My Documents" folder, right-click on the Folder, and click
Properties.

After downloading, double-click to unzip it (it will normally unzip to
C:\Windows\Temp), go to the TEMP folder, right-click on tweakui.inf, and
click install.
It will place an icon in the Control Panel.

I don't see any of the above options in TweakUI on Win98, Noel.  Are they perhaps
options that are visible in WinME?

Yes, Glen, they appear in WinME but not in Win98
