a problem installing error

hello,

When i attempt to load 98se on a clean disk i get an error
msg that says:
standard mode: bad fault in ms-dos extender
fault: oood stack dump: 0000 0000 0070
raw fault frame: ec=0000 ip=524f cs=03c7 fl=3216 sp=0000 ss=0327

help pls. What does this means?

See this MS article:
Windows Err Msg: Fault in MS-DOS Extender
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q87239/#appliesto

However it applies to:
Microsoft Windows 95
Microsoft Windows 98 Standard Edition

It doesn't mention Second Edition. But will give you an idea and the
causes.

Thank you for your quickly advise,but I acccording to URL says, I can not
just install. Now I try to install 98 by VMware Workstation in win2k,but no
way.

That's often caused by bad RAM

Sir,

Thank you for you advise,but my system can install win xp at a fashion. I
think RAM have no problem.

How are you installing Win98 SE? Are you using a Win98 Startup
diskette with CDrom support?  And then running Setup on the CD? If
not try it.

That error can be caused by a DOS Extended Memory Manager, such as
EMM386.exe. Hence the ms-dos extender message. EMM386.exe is not
loaded when using the Startup Disk.

Win98 SE uses real Dos, AFAIK XP doesn't. Which may be why you can
install XP without the error.
