Unable to install Jave packages for C:\Windows\Classes\xmldso4.cab and 2
others.
The error code is 800b0111h. I have tried the manual install from several
CD's and I always get the same messages. Can anyone tell me what the problem
is?

If you are upgrading or reinstalling Internet Explorer, make sure there is a
"c:\windows\temp" folder.  If you are installing or reinstalling Windows 98,
try copying the contents of the Win98 directory from the CD to the hard
drive.  Then restart the computer in DOS and run setup from the hard drive.

That doesn't seem to be the solution. I do have a C:\windows\temp folder. It
appears to be associated with a registry key I believe.

Try extracting a fresh copy of "c:\windows\winhlp32.exe" from your Windows 98 CD.
If this doesn't help, try extracting the "xmldso4.cab" file and the others
mentioned in the error message from the CD to the "c:\windows\java\classes"
folder before running setup.

What setup are you running when this happens?  In other words, what are you
installing when you get the message?

I'm reinstalling Windows 98 from the CD. It gets through the initial stages
and its when its loading the drivers I believe that this message comes up. It
is past the 1st time install, but before it has finished. If I recall
correctly it is installing the desktip and various items. It errors before
finishing that, but it will go on and finish the install. I've read
references to a problem associated with the registry, but I'm not certain if
that's the problem. I have run registry mechanic so the registry does not
appear to be corrupted.

There are a few causes and solutions mentioned in this article...try them:
Error Message: Unable to Install Java Packages...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q175133/

In Windows, click Start> Programs> MS-DOS Prompt, type the following and press
Enter:
jview

The first line of output will have a version number....what is it?  Specifically,
what are the last four digits of the version number (the Build number)?

If Windows is reinstalling successfully, you may just need to go to Windows Update
and install the critical security updates, which should include the last Java VM if
you have an earlier version installed.
