Hi glee, My computer does not starts in Safe mode or Defaults to Safe Mode.
None of this. When I start the computer it will run a short while and auto
turn
OFF by itself. Everytime you start, it will trun off by itself. I have to
press F8 key to go into Safe Mode. Please advice how to start Windows in
Normal mode.
Thks.

You may have misled us by posting earlier:
> I am unable to startup window in normal mode.
> I can only start up in SAFE MODE.

When a PC " will trun off by itself" we need to
know whether you mean:
(1)  The PC spontaneously goes  through Shut Down routine.
(2)  Electricity to PC and monitor is suddenly switched off.

In case (1) suspect a virus.
In case (2) suspect hardware damage (e.g. power supply.)

Ah - you have a driver problem, probably
Boot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager
look there for device flagged with error messages - delete all found (make a
note of each first - copy the list to your response)
reboot to Normal Mode - allow Windows to reinstall the drivers.
See if that helps

As Noel stated, it may be a driver problem (though I wonder why Windows would run a
short time before the problem occurs, if it is a driver issue).  The fact that it
turns off on its own is not "typical" behaviour for a driver issue.

When you start in Safe Mode, when it checks the memory prior to the appearance of
the Desktop, does it mention any problems with the memory or does it just say
"....Done"?

One thing you can try for diagnostic purposes is to do a clean boot, and see if the
issue occurs then also:

Start the computer in Safe mode and see if there is a "c:\windows\wininit.ini"
file.  If so, rename it.  Then restart normally and use sfc to extract a fresh
copy of "c:\windows\wininit.exe" from your Windows 98 CD.
