Neither Scandisk nor Defragment will work outside of
Safety Mode.
Have tried turning off virus software, filing software,
sound, calander, etc.
I'm hoping, perhaps someone has come across this one
before. It's a real pain, and I'd hate to have to format
my HD again. Reinstalling all that software is a killer.
I run a Publishing company and this machine does nearly
all the work.

Kind regards,
Tom.

Other than being a pain in the butt, there is nothing wrong with running
them in Safe Mode.

See the defrag and scandisk troubleshooters located here:

<snip>

What happens exactly, when you try to run either?

Stewart.
