I'm running Windows 98 SE. I'm having problems with the
computer hanging when shutting down. I get the message,
"Windows is shutting down," then it stops there.
When I restart then it goes through the ScanDisk thing. It
is very irritating and wasting lots of time. I've tried to
use the Trouble shooting Wizard at microsoft.com, but I
can't seem to come up with the solution.
I did download the patch that is suppose to fix the
problem, but that didn't help.
I also disabled my USB drivers and tried it and it shut
down okay. What now?
Thanks.

Hi Bonnie,
This is a common problem in Win98 SE where Fast Shutdown is still enabled.
Run MSCONFIG, click Advanced, and make sure Fast Shutdown is disabled.
If the Win98 SE Shutdown Supplement was installed this option will be not
appear in MSConfig. If that doesn't do it go to James Eshelman's Shutdown
Troubleshooting Site and go through it step by step.
