I think Norton products are bloated and problematic.  I don't use any of
them although I have in the distant past before I knew better.

AntiVirus programs

 AVG, free AV program:  http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

ETrust, reasonably priced AV program that I use:

EZ Armor Security Suite, One year free trial :

Thanks, but my company has already purchased Norton and it is the only
"approved" anitvirus I can use.
I'm stuck with what I have, so I have to make it run better.
Thanks,
jojo

Check with Norton tech support and see what they say.

The most common reason for this is that Norton has been set up to monitor
changes to files, and that it is monitoring changes to a file that is being
constantly updated, such as the registry (a DAT file) or a database file.
Make sure files like this, which cannot be infected and which are frequently
updated (and/or are large files) are not being monitored.
