Problem after download

Today I downloaded a newer version of Irfanview and the Irfanview Plugins.

I have always downloaded updates to be installed to my desktop, then install
then right click on the downloaded program file and delete. Never a problem
till today.

Today when I right clicked on the downloaded program icon (program was 5MB)
the hour glass just hung.
I had to ctrl-alt-delete and start at the command prompt and deleted the
downloaded program from DOS mode.

I then did my usual maintenance, cleared the temp folder via internet
options from the control panel, scan the disk and defragged the disk. Ran
spybot which did not seem to find anything unusual. Did a virus scan.

I then downloaded the file again to a second hard drive on the PC with the
same results.

Running Win98SE, 128MB RAM,all window updates and IE updates have been
applied.

This is the first time for this issue.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

BL

The first download probably created a corrupted file, due to an error that
occurred in the download process..  The location would not be relevant.  To
check, you need to try the download again to the desktop.

I also did the download on my WinXP Pro Laptop and had no problems. I then
copied the downloaded file from the laptop desktop to a thumbdrive. When I
connected the thumb drive to the desktop and tried to access the file by
right clicking to copy, again the hour glass just hung .

On the desktop pc I downloaded two large programs from 2 different sites
(Microsofts ActiveSync and another
professional pharmacy program from Epocrates) to my desktop and was able to
right click on both downloaded programs and observe properties and then able
to delete without issue.

Wonder why the problem with Irfanview download.
The programs did however install (slowly) successfully.

Thanks again,
