downloading update fails

When attempting to download security and other updates to
my windows 98, 2nd edition I am unable to complete the
download. At the end of the download time, my moniter goes
blank,into a stand by mode.After waiting for a while, I
manually wake up the moniter. When I request my download
history, the downloads I just attempted show "failed". I
am using a Compaq Presario Mod. 5461 computer. Previous
downloads were OK. Suggestions, please? John Ragan

Hi John,

Locate the WindowsUpdate.log file under \Windows. Open it and scroll to the
bottom. Look at the error codes and compare them against this site:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
