I recently downloaded a program called AD-WARE and ran it
on my puter.  After it was done I thought it was listing
ad's that I should get rid of, so I did.  Now when I
restart my puter it brings up a window stating that I am
missing a file(I think it's called) called spp.reg.  I am
still able to surf the net but when I try to open
chatrooms they do not load.  I think the two problems are
related but would like to fix both of them.  Please,
someone help me.

That was Ad-Aware? From LavasoftUSA? If so, when the list of items popped up
that were found during the scan, did you select them all? Because if you only
had Ad-Aware remove some things, but not others, that would tend to give you
this error (you removed the file, but not the command to run it at startup.)

As for not being able to get into Chat rooms, which ones, specifically? If they
"require" that you permit spy-ware as part of the cost of using them, then yes,
Ad-Aware may have screwed that up. However, that should usually pose no problem,
just require you to back up a couple of steps and "reset" the structures for the
rooms. On the other hand, you should make sure you don't have Ad-Aware enable as
a background function, and you should check configuration of Ad-Aware to stop it
from scanning at startup.

In any case, Ad-Aware's default setting is to "Quarantine" everything it
removes, allowing you to restore items. There's an icon that looks like a
wrapped package at upper right. This will show you Quarantined files, in sets
that are dated. You can choose to restore some or all of the package.

All of the above is predicated, of course, on your actually having downloaded
and installed, and run Ad-Aware version 6.x (probably version 6.181), not
something else entirely.

spp.reg is the file that installed the parasite. You do not want it back.

There still could be a reference in your system.ini file or in the registry.
Search for it and remove it.

Start > Run, type in: sysedit and hit enter.
Click on the Win.ini title bar to bring it to the front, look at the Run= line, if
there is anything pertaining to sp.reg after the = remove it so that all remains is
Run=, save and close out.
Next go to Start > Run, type in: regedit and hit enter, navigate to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Remove any reference to SP or sp.reg in the right pane and close out.
*Note-- Before deleting any entry/ies, click on it once to highlite it, go to
Registry on the Menu bar, click on Export Registry File, place a check next to
Selected Branch, name it and save it to the desktop. This way if something should go
amiss, you can double click the .reg file to export it back in.

Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D can not detect some of the newer variants of
parasites/spyware. Download/run Cool Web Shredder from the same link provided below
for HJThis.
If you still have problems, download/run HijackThis from:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/

Then post the logs to an appropriate NG here where they specialize in
spyware/hijacker removal:
