I believe that is right course of action. Did you try to get them from
the Catalog...?...
At "START, Windows Update"...
(1) Click "Personalize..." in left pane & then check "Display the
link..." in right pane.
(2) Click "Windows Update Catalog" in left pane, which is now under "See
Also". (Perhaps you need to leave & re-enter the site to see it.)
(3) Click "Find Updates..." in right pane.
(4) Select OS in window & click "Search".
(5) Select "Critical Updates...".
If that fails... well, let's just hope it doesn't.

No, I didn't try to get them from the catalogue. How do I do that?
I tried what you suggested. Windows Update acts like the languages are
already installed and therefore does not give me the option of reinstalling
them. I will play with this some more after Christmas and get back to you.
Thanks for your suggestions.
By the way, if things got worse, it certainly would not be the first time
for me. LOL

You do it by following the steps in my prior post. However, instead of
clicking for "Critical Updates..." at step (5), click for
"Multi-Language Features". There appear to be 78 of them.
