What Windows 98 cd disk do you have (retail, OEM, upgrade, Second Edition
update)?

What Windows 95 version is installed (OEM or retail)?

How fast is your CPU?

How much RAM?

I've same type of question. I've Packerd Bell with Intel
233 MHz, 64MB RAM, CD drive, Windows 95 (don't OEM or
retail - it came with the computer that I bought 5 years
ago from CompUSA).

Any idea what should I look for when buy the win98se from
the eBay/Internet. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You probably have the OEM version of Windows 95. I suggest you seek out a
full install retail disk of Windows 98 Second Edition, and then do a clean
install, but do a backup first if you want to save anything. Microsoft no
longer markets W9X, so try eBay.

Your hardware is adequate for W98 (but not for XP), and will run better with
more RAM. I suggest you add at least another 64 MB if your motherboard will
allow it. Make sure you buy the correct type of RAM (check your motherboard
manual).

I would avoid any OEM versions. As I said, look for a full install RETAIL
version.

You can buy this and for the most part will work, except the Key Number is
not a valid US number. A large number of very cheap Microsoft Software (like
Windows XP Professional=$39, Windows Server 2003=$24.00 etc...) is being
sold that comes from Eastern Europe and will not have any support to it.
So....I would not get it.
