It seems that you haven't installed the drivers for motherboard, that
are on CD which came with this motherboard.

thanks for the reply
i had a tech install my motherboard (Itel Desktop D185EPFV)
couple or three years ago.
had no trouble with it untill i had it formatted and
win.98se reinstalled last week.
i am a real dummy with the things.  do i put the cd in and
install or do i have to pick out something to install?
any hints to what to do would be greatly appreciated.
or can i leave it like it is?
thanks again

Larry,

Yes, then the drivers are not installed...

In general, insert the motherboard's CDROM in the drive, and when it
runs -- select "Install Intel driver" or something like that (don't know
what the wording will be in your case).

Or (probably better) download and install (run) the latest Intel Chipset
inf-update from Intel site,
ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/6539/eng/infinst_enu.zip
(if the chipset is too old -- this update will refuse to install; then
the only way will be to use CDROM as I said above). One or two restart
will be needed after installation -- so confirm when you'll be asked to
restart.
