Removing Symantec software.

Is the any way to remove completely Symantec software and all the spew it leaves behind
without formating the HD?

Yes:  just identify in Registry all file calls unique
to this unnamed software, and delete their keys.
Keep a written record of these deletions so
you can delete the actual files when needed.

Start here: http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/consumer.html
Select your product and version
On the next page type in Removal and click search.
Get the proper RNIS, RNAV for removal of your product.
