Anytime I try and run a program (games, software, etc.)
using the CD-ROM I get promted the following:
[Error Starting Program: The Autoplay.exe is linked to
missing export kernel32.dll:etFileAttributesA]
and
[Error Starting Program: The VB40032.dll file is linked
to missing export MSVCRT20.dll]
I have spent several nights searching on Microsoft's
website but no luck. My CD-ROM is dead but I know its not
hardware because it still plays music CD's fine.
I thought about coping the setup files over to my hard
drive from my windows 98 CD but no success since the CD-
ROM is dead.
Any suggestions?

The type of error "missing export ... would indicate that your .dll files
are not the correct version for the programs you are using.
Check your versions against this database.
Welcome to the Microsoft DLL Help database

file versions that ship with a selected set of Microsoft products.

If you need to extract copies of these files use SFC.EXE
