No, unfortunately there has not been any fix for it yet, sorry.

And microsoft does not admit they created such a problem.
Just how could upgrading internet explorer cause this anyway.
Where is that judge - was the Netscape case settled yet?

My good guess is that these things happen when trying to upgrade a product to
work with multiple OS environments all at the same time while trying to keep
track of all the many different avenues, especially from 5.5 to 6 across all.
..not that I'm trying to defend it but just understand the humanality of
undersights/errors happening with that complex of a project. I think it would
prolly get fixed a lot quicker if 98 wasn't walkin out the door which where now
this oversight may never get resolved ):

dunno, but this issue isn't even in the same class though now is it.. it's just
a quirk ..albeit a royal pita for those who experience it o:)

Absolutely, it is a sin. But you may (& this goes quick)...
If you are certain it is not a system file or otherwise important,
then...
(1) "START, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt".
(2) Type "DELTREE /S " at the C:\ Prompt.
(No quotes, but there is a space at end.)
WARNING: DELTREE is a powerful command.
Every file and subdirectory within the specified directory will be
deleted.
(3) Open Explorer to that file/folder.
(4) Grab the file/folder with the R-Mouse button & drag it over the
Prompt button in the Taskbar.
(5) When the DOS window opens, drop the file into it.
Hit the Enter key, IF you've dragged the RIGHT ONE into there.
If that doesn't do it (because the file/folder is in use), then "START,
Shut down, Restart in MS-DOS mode", and DEL the short name there.
C:\>deltree/?
Deletes a directory and all the subdirectories and files in it.
To delete one or more files and directories:
DELTREE [/Y] [drive:]path [[drive:]path[...]]
/Y Suppresses prompting to confirm you want to delete
the subdirectory.
[drive:]path Specifies the name of the directory you want to
delete.
Note: Use DELTREE cautiously. Every file and subdirectory within the
specified directory will be deleted.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,
