Check the disks that came with your PC to see if there is one for your sound
card.  If so, reinstall the sound card driver and see if that clears it up.

What do you see when you look at Control Panel/Multimedia/Audio? Is
there a preferred device? Is show volume control checked?

What do you see with System/Device Manager/"Sound, video and game
controllers"?
