just a general question about anti virus programs: using windows xp home
edition 2004 norton anti virus program, & win 98SE with norton 2002 AV
should the norton be disabled when
1) downloading & installing programs off net?
2) installing programs from a disk?

i posted this in xp's gen discuss. looking for additional feed back from you

Downloading - definitely not.
Installing - yes, but make sure you scan the .exe or .zip file first, and
that you disconnect/shut down your modem.

(of course, some programs insist on installing at download, so there's not a
lot you can do to get around that).

Yes, with the same proviso as above.
