Can anyone assist plse?

I have developed a problem where word crashes when I try
and open it. I cannot resolve which means that I cannot
use Word at all. I have Symantec viruses protection and
have done a live update within the last 24 hours and no
viruses were detected.

There seem to be 2 kinds of responses i am receiving:
1. 'Internat caused a General protection fault to User.Exe
at 00004 000002a6a'
2. 'Critically low resources' followed by various
programmes (inc word) not responding (i have seen 1 called
Nside 32 which i dont recognise).

I have run out of ideas

I have a Gateway Essential x86 that I purchased in
Australia. However, I am currently working in the UK on a
project and do not have my system or application disks
with me to refer to.

Any input greatly appreciated

Search for and delete all copies of NORMAL.DOT on your hard drive, then
reboot and try running Word again.
