My mouse's pointer keeps on disappearing to corners. This became worse as I use the internet more often. When you drag the mouse, the pointer is sometimes not moving and is fighting the drag. When you click it something, it jumps away and gets to click something else most often the icons and links on the corners and sides of the screen. Do you think I have some corrupted files? Also, my FreeCell game is not working.
Thanks for any help

The mouse & keyboard are the ones with moving parts, & they are
"hooked", meaning tasks will run each time you touch one. Therefore,
with the computer off, unplug the mouse & hold by it's tail until it may
stop spinning & squawking. Also, open & clean the ball & rollers. That
is not a design you may see on the rollers-- it is a band of dirt
running round the center! Also, unplug the keyboard, turn it round &
spank it.

Ignore the fool who says ignore the fool. PCR has a good first-step
approach, to try cleaning the mouse. However, as cheap as mice are these
days, I generally first try replacing the mouse instead. The symptoms
you're describing are often caused by a dirty mouse or a defective mouse
cord.

Yeah; and get a laser mouse - no ball, no dirt, no more trouble :)
Shouldn't cost more than a few dollars, 30$ is already way too much!

Do you mean an optical mouse. I use both a Microsoft PS2 mouse and an
Internet Explorer Optical mouse with my 98SE system. The PS2 mouse is
useful in safe mode and other areas that do not support the optical
mouse.

Had this problem EXACTLY with a IBM mouse and XP. The
standard Windows drivers did not fit it. They only work
the ball.
When you click on something or try to use the wheel the
pointer would flash to to upper left corner.
And the "Pelmiced" mouse drivers for the mouse did not
work with XP.
Check the mouse drivers in Device Manager.
Eratic pointer could indicate a virus also.
