Hello & Help,
I have a DELL running Windows 98 and when I turn the
computer on I get a message that says:
"Invalid system disc, Replace the disc and then press any

Sounds like your hard drive is failing or has failed. If there is data on
the drive that you must recover you should quit messing with it and get
professional assistance. If you don't care, let us know and we can suggest
things that might fix it at the risk of damaging anything that might
otherwise be recovered.

Doug,
Try booting with your Win98 Startup diskette and enter:
C: <enter>
DIR Msdos.sys <enter>
Is the file present? Is it more than 1k?
Enter SYS C:
Remove the diskette and re-boot.
If no help:
C: <enter>
EDIT Msdos.sys <enter>
Does the file include Paths to Windows at the top of the file and
then a section for [Options] and lots of X's or just one line? The
file size must be more than 1k.
Use alt+F then X to exit the editor.
Post back and tell us what you saw in the Msdos.sys file, if
anything.
Regards,
Bill Watt
