Hi All, I'm -desperately- seeking some help/hints ...

A. PROBLEM :

Windows' 98 error messages significance and Win32/Kernel32
issues

B. HISTORY/CONTEXT :

Recently I succesfully removed (once again) some spyware
and other hijacks commands (e.g. new.net, spybot, adaware,
etc.) with HijackThis.

But this time, since then several "Invalid Page Faults"
occur repeatedly during my Windows 98 sessions, leading
a.o. to unproper shut downs and start-ups of Windows, slow-
downs or freezes ; respective error messages are :

- Mdm. This program has performed an illegal operation and
will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the
program vendor.
- System. This program has performed an illegal ...
- Pstores. This program has performed an illegal ...
- Bttnserv. This program has performed an illegal
operation ...
- etc.

C. CURRENT STATUS

All of the following actions didn't find any problem :

- Registry Checker (scanregw.exe)
- System File Checker
- System Configuration Utility
- ScanDisk

I also tried to get some hints from Dr. Watson, and here
is a translation :

"Win32.Kernel component did use unproperly memory" :
- explorer
- imgicon.exe
- dllcmd32.exe
- pstores.exe
- etc.

D. QUESTION(S) :

1. What is the actual meaning of "Invalid page fault"
related to the above components, etc ? Where can I find
more about this ?

2. Do I have a Windows 98 problem or might it be an
Internet Explorer related problem ? Is there a more
specific newsgroup for this kind of problems ?

3. What do you recommend me to do to get rid of those error
messages, knowing that reinstalllation of Windows 98 is not
an option ?

Thanks for your input (i.e. experience/theory/references)

Are you saying all this has happened as a result of running HijackThis?
Then, what shows up at "HijackThis, Config button, Backups tab"?

>Are you saying all this has happened as a result of running HijackThis?

--> Factually, it is the only link I see as those problems
started the very next Windows session after having made
some fixes with HijackThis.

>Then, what shows up at "HijackThis, Config button, Backups tab"?

--> Nothing relevant -from my point of view- it shows 6
lines : some 016 DPF from dialers and Java Runtime Env.,
some 019 from stylesheets and a 04 from an Iomega driver
(which I removed later).

--> I dont see the link myself between those IE registry
issues and the mentioned recurrent Windows98 error
messages (as those are not very explicit to me)

Kind Regards,

Chris
