Can someone explain to me what mprexe.exe is? I cannot
find an answer on the MS website, or with a google search
for that matter. I have Win98. Thanks.

I'm running W98SE, so my version may be different than yours, but here's
what I have:
Version: 4.10.1998
Description: WIN32 Network Interface Service Process
Copyright: Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp. 1993-1998
Type: Application
Location: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Don't know if that helps, or not.

Wow! I thought that was almost impossible these days.

MPREXE.EXE is a program that allows Windows 95, 98, or ME
to have more than one network client, protocol, or adapter.
MPR stands for Multi Provider Router. It's primary function is to route
incoming and outgoing packets between the adapter and different clients.
It should be a transparent System module as far as you are concerned.
You really shouldn't even be aware of its existence.
Are you having a problem with it?
The kosher file is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXE
Whether you have that file or not (you should),
if you have C:\WINDOWS\MPREXE.EXE (you should not)
you may have a VERY VERY serious problem.
This, for example
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_OPASERV.T
"This worm deletes files, overwrites the boot sector and destroys the CMOS,
a critical system element which holds hardware configuration and initialization settings.
These payloads leave infected systems practically unusable."

If MPREXE if present as a process in your Start Up tab you have a virus as
suggested by Hugh Candlin.
Other wise.
Look for your error message on this page for some clues.
