My IE browser keeps locking up and then restarts my
computer. This only happens when i use my browser on-line.
I can use everything else including my chat services but
when I use IE it is locking up or freezing my computer and
sometimes restarts my computer. It does this when one of
few things happen, Either I type in an address and click
go or a come across a BIG picture on any web site or I go
to an web page with a Java (I think) script or it is a
huge page to load. IE, this happens almost every time I go
to microsofts web site to look in here. Just for
reference, it took me 4 trys to get to here and type this
message.

Do I have an graphics problem?  My drivers are all loaded
correctly and there are no conflicts listed. My system is
Win98 2nd ED, 1150 MHZ AMD processor, Nivadia Ti4200 video
card, 512 MBs MEM, a DELL 21" Triniton monitor and 80 gigs
of HD space.

Sometimes the kinds of problems you describe can be eliminated via a
repair or reinstallation. However, I think that before you do what I
suggest below, you should eliminate any spyware (by using Ad-Aware,
for example) and that you should make sure no viruses are on your
system. Personally, I would also run EasyCleaner and get rid of
extraneous entries in the Registry.

You can ask Windows to "repair" Internet Explorer. Go to Control
Panel's Add/Remove module. Highlight IE and click on "Remove". The
next screen should give you the choice of repairing instead of
removing.

If repair doesn't work, I guess you could uninstall IE, which should
actually revert to an earlier version. Then after restarting the
system, you could reinstall the later version. This would, of course,
require that you install updates as well.

TKS for your reapply. I have no ad or spy ware on my
system.  I did the Internet Explorer repair and I did the
uninstall. None of these fixed the problem :(

If this happened to me, I would suspect defective RAM.

Something is causing the machine to reset, which implies that
something is telling the microprocessor to access addresses that it
should leave alone. This can happen because of a damaged program, but
you repaired the program. It might happen because of bad data, and it
is possible to end up with bad data in a download, but such events
should happen very rarely.

Two further diagnostic checks --

1. You can try running a RAM test. You can download a test program
from www.simmtester.com. You put it on a floppy disk that you boot in
order to run it.  It runs a cycle of several differently patterned
tests over and over.

2. You can uninstall IE (actually revert to an earlier version) and
then reinstall it.
