I notice that Win98 cannot see the only floppy as drive "A" but insists
that is drive "B" although the bios only sees "A". I have temporarilly
"worked around" this by changing the label of a shortcut aimed at "B"
to "A". Any better solution?

Look in BIOS setup for an option to switch A and B. If it's set, then the
BIOS will swap the letters but Windows sometimes ignores the swap. Change
the settings, then move the drive to the other cable connector.
