Rod - 10 Nov 2006 12:00 GMT G'day Trendsetters, my nipper is a drum student. We recently purchased a CDRom of Kenny Aronoff, and the sales assistant apologised but he was unable to supply an accompanying booklet of music notation with the CDRom, but that there was an accompanying PDF file, from which we could print.
I am unable to access the CDRom, either in explorer or through Power DVD. Any ideas?
I have Win98se

Windows recognition of the CD drive is Step 2. Step 1 is whether the PC BIOS recognizes the CD drive. This is displayed on screen before Windows begins to load. Post here the Power On Self Test results. We do not know whether this CD drive is broken or improperly connected or what.

Gary S. Terhune - 10 Nov 2006 18:13 GMT Do other CDs work OK in the drive? If so, I think it's time to take the CD back to the store for a refund.

All other CDRoms can be read (ie file structure) when I load them either in my E drive (CD writer) or F drive CDRom drive.
The Kenny DVD loads as "busy" for some time, then nothing I cannot read anything, the screen suggests there is nothing in either drive. I'll take the DVD back to the store.

Terhune - 10 Nov 2006 23:34 GMT Well, at first you said it was a CD, now you say it's a DVD. In that case, it just might be the decoding software. But even then, you should be able to access the files on the disk using Windows Explorer, I think. Not something I know a heck of a lot about, DVD issues.

As you say, any other CD, DVD, VCD, I use, I can always read the file structure, (even though I may not be able to use them) Here, I just get a blank, yet it works fine in my DVD player. Thanks for your time in response.
I emailed the company a week ago, but customer service, well you know :) I'll ring the store.

Terhune - 11 Nov 2006 00:36 GMT If it works in the DVD Player, then it's a matter of discovering what format it is and whether or not you can obtain a decoder for your version of Windows -- and possibly the make/model of DVD drive might also be a consideration. As I said, I'm no expert in these things.

If you want to read the PDF file on a DVD disc, either use a DVD drive in your computer, or go to someone that has one in their computer, and use it to copy the PDF file to a CD.

This beats the time I tried to walk through the (closed) Patio door.

I've done that with my glass sliding door. However, it was only after my dog did the same thing that I relented and installed some safety markers.
BTW, yours *was* a glass door, wasn't it? :-)

Gary S. Terhune - 11 Nov 2006 06:27 GMT My sister did that when she was a very little girl. We always teased her that that's how she got her pug nose (not true, she had it before then, and she's mostly grown out of it... Or into it?)

Rod - 11 Nov 2006 09:27 GMT Yes it was a glass sliding door Franc, It also had those little white squiggly safety circles. It may have looked humorous, but I can tell you my nose smarted for quite some time. My pride suffered minor abraisions.
