Hello all,
I ran a search of the NG and didn't see the author's name or title mentioned
here so here they are just FYI:  "Running Microsoft Windows98" by Craig
Stinson.

It is an 800 page manual on Windows98.  A relative loaned it to me...she got
it from the used or outdated books stand in a public library for less than a
buck. It has a companion CD with it which is a copy on disk of the book
itself.  I ran a cursory search and it might be found at places like
Amazon.com.  The copywrite on this one is 1998.  I don't know about the CD
being on the internet....didn't search for that.   It's funny how many things
have seemed to appear by magic in the book after reading about it here, from
the experts.  :)

RVW
ps...ug...it's heavy...(poundwise)..  - and is a paperback.

There were half a dozen such works, most with
accompanying CDs (Livingston & Straub, Jim Boyce,
the Que manual etc.) several now indeed being
remaindered very cheaply.  What is the question?

I think it was an FYI post, but I, too, wondered if there was a question.

LOL!

For some reason, that immediately brought to mind the laptop my brother's
sending me today. Various problems to deal with, starting with breaking into
it -- forgot the local administrator password and for various reasons, I'd
disconnected it from the SBS domain last week, so now I can't reconnect it
(I work on this system remotely.)

But another issue is that on one of the domain user logons it will go into
hibernation after 15 minutes of non-use. This machine's primary use is as
the shop computer in an aircraft maintenance shop. Typically, the mechanic
has to do something on it every half hour to an hour. A real PITA. The
domain user apparently doesn't have permission to set power management
settings, or they aren't sticking, I dunno.

Anyway, when I first glanced at your post... Herniate<>Hibernate...<g>

lol....it's my neck that gits me.  It was only FYI, there was no question-
but the answer is I have had this computer stuck up in a corner shelf of my
camper and have been in the process of moving and getting settled in a new
state and just got back online again after quite a few years; hence the name
"-rv-winkle" as in Rip Van.....yawn  ;)...I guess I just thought there might
still be a few like me out there who might not know about it and maybe could
still find it around or at a library...much better than the small OEM manual
that came with the computer...so please consider it a naive but well intended
gesture.

Unless you find the tome to be usefull, it's not worth mentioning.

I never found these to be of any value - they tend to be written
before the OS described has been used much - hence there is little
reference to actual problems an 'average user' might run into.

By the time a useful manual might be available, the OS is approaching
it's 'not supported' date.
