Hi,

I am having some REAL problems with my PC,
I've had WIN XP Pro. on there (for about 3 years now)...
until the other day I had problems starting it, it said that there was a
missing or corrupt file,
(C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\PCI.sys)
(this may have been caused by me )

So I EVENTUALLY got into windows, and ran my 'IBM APTIVA RECOVERY CD' over
it, and that installed WIN. 98 SE,
but...
now I can't open windows because after it is half booted (nearly onto
windsows)...
it displays this message...

'windows protection error... you need to restart your computer... press any
key to restart'...

so I did,
and it shut down the computer.

I've done this a few times, then I got out a friend's WIN. 98 SE cd, and
tried to install that, but the setup doesn't go through, it stops and says..

something like...
'MS- DOS ERROR' ????

so I gave up there,
the 'recovery disc's win 98 is still on the computer, as the installation of
the other win. 98 didn't make any changes)

I want to get onto windows to see what I can do to fix all this...

what can I do to get onto windows??

(keeping in mind the message displayed before starting windows...

'windows protection error, you need to restart your computer, press any key
to restart...

the computer shuts down there,
I'll restart then...

so what do I do next?????
............................................

if you could understand that....

PLEASE help me!
it would be REALLY appreciated,

thank you

You may have to start over from scratch.  See
