My computer will only run in safe mode.  At boot up I am given six
options "microsoft windows start up" if I select normal it starts to
load and gets stuck at "While intializing device Lmouse"  Funny but
the mouse works just fine in safe mode.  While in safe mode and I
click on control pannel I get the Windows error message can't open
with Details "Kernel32.dll at 015bff9d709 Registar bla bla bla Stack
Dump.  I then close the error box and conrol pannel opens?
Do I have two problem and what may they be?

Thanks muchly

Logitech mouse driver is not used in Safe mode, the standard default driver
is used.

Since this is the only error you posted:
Download the newest version of Logitech software that supports your mouse.
Uninstall the present driver, and install the new. Possibly a driver
corruption problem or a registry load error.

However, this may not fix the issue, or the real issue. A full boot log
review would likely be necessary to adequately diagnose any other potential
issues. Pick "create boot log" at startup, and review for load failures by
searching [using failure - case insensitive] through it with a text editor.

Post potential issues found, if necessary, for analysis by the group. Hope
this helps.

It's possibly best to read the articles Brian A. posted first.
Nevertheless, in case it is a mouse issue & before going on MEB's mouse
driver hunt, a good try may be to reinstall the drivers you have now...

(a) Boot to Safe Mode.
(Hold F5 as you boot, or hold CTRL for the Startup Menu.
Alternatively, turn on the Startup Menu at "START, Run, MSConfig,
    Advanced button.)

(b) "Control Panel, System, Device Manager tab".
If Control Panel won't open, then try...
"START button, Find, F/F, SYSDM.CPL", & click it in the Find
window.

(c) Open the Mouse branch, & Remove every Mouse driver in it.
If there were more than one (& just one is plugged in), you had a
    "ghost".

(d) Reboot to Windows Normal Mode.

If it does not automatically detect the mouse at that reboot, you
will
need to reinstall it the way you originally did.

CAVEAT: I have a "Readme" that says (speaking of a Device Manager remove
of the mouse)...

......Quote..............
Windows 9x and Windows NT 4.0 have the ability to load device
drivers without running the Setup program. Loading the devices
drivers this way, however, does not install the user interface
programs such as the Logitech Enhanced Mouse Control Center.
Using the "Have Disk" function will install only the Logitech
 mouse drivers.
......End of quote.....

And here is how to further research the Control Panel issue...

(A) Extract RUNDLL32.EXE, if "access denied" is mentioned in the error
message you get when clicking the Control Panel...

RUNDLL32.EXE
Desc: Run a DLL as an App
Loc:  C:\WINDOWS
Size: 24,576 bytes
Mod: Friday, April 23, 1999 10:22:00 PM
Ver:  4.10.1998

That is old enough (Win98SE) never to have been modified by an update.
So, extract it with SFC.

(1) "START button, Run, SFC"
(2) Bolt "Extract one file from installation disk"
(3) Enter "RUNDLL32.EXE" in the "Specify..." box.
(4) Click "Start". It should offer to "Save file in  C:\WINDOWS".
If not, make it so.
(5) In "Restore from", if not already pre-filled, browse to
(a) Installation CD (likely the Win98 folder) or
(b) The folder that has your cabs on the hard drive, likely
"C:\WINDOWS\options\cabs\".
(5) Click "OK"

If it discovers the file already exists, it will offer to back it up.
May as well do so. If it discovers the file is "in use", it will request
that you reboot to complete the install.

Well the problem was  AVG anti virus software after its definition
updates.  In boot log there was all sorts of font code failure 0016
that can send one down the garden path....

You've got it all solved? Glad to hear it, then.

Many of these virus checkers are beginning to choke now that Vista has
come out. Its irradiation must be twice as deadly as XP's ever was!
