load power profile

I read here that load power profile IS required to run Win98SE but I have
disable them in msconfig, to get a leaner system, without problem. I didn't
have my monitor set to turn off or have a screen saver running anyway to
avoid interferences with other sound programs.
Have I undermined my system without realizing it?

My recall about the effects caused by disabling the entries is not very good
(CRS).  What I do remember is that weird little problems can occur by having
the power profiles disabled.  Your machine is not really leaner by having
them disabled as the entries run and then exit so I suggest that you go
ahead and enable them.

...My memory of why I unchecked that entry is long forgotten and I just
don't remember, but for whatever reason I had unchecked my msconfig entry
of that myself and it's always been unchecked as long as I can remember..
I'm not aware of any unwanted effects; at least I have not noticed any.

Now you have me wondering why I did that in the first place... I'll have to
refresh my memory and look it up.

My power/standby schemes are all set to off and never as well, but for my
use I know that's how I want those.

Hi Rick

Un-checking them may not cause a problem on every machine but it did on
some.  And the bad part was those niggling problems (cannot recall what they
were) did not seem related to the power profile so there was no immediate
thought of checking for that.  Since there is no apparent gain to be had by
disabling the settings, I say leave them enabled and it is one less
possibility for a problem occurring.

Hi Ron,

Okay,
I remember I did it for a reason though and at that time I knew both sides
of the equation, but at them moment have forgotten the reasonings.  I
briefly searched for the answer and found lots of repeating things, and
various other interesting things that caught my attention; perhaps I will
remember or come across my own notes just to understand my own reasonings.
I'll be out of town next week so won't get back to this right away.  Thanks
for the reply

Rick
