Hi all,

I've recently noticed that when I start my computer some icons on my
desktop i.e. 'my computer' and ' my documents', which are located at the
left side of the desktop are moved downwards! Could this be the result of a
virus? I have AVG which shows no virus at the moment though I recently had
one.

First check your Desktop Properties.   Right click
on any empty region of the Desktop and ensure
the option Auto-Arrange is NOT checked.

If the problem persists, post back here with
full details.

Auto Arrange not checked.

I wonder if there is a file - which must remember each icons position -
which on boot up is somehow adding/subtracting a vertical placement amount
thereby causing the movement? Or a separate file on boot which influences
the desktop positions e.g. is a program which just adds/subtracts an amount
causing a constant movement?

There's a utility called "IconSaver" (at
http://www.iconsaver.com/index.html) which saves icon positions and can
restore them later.

I use it all the time because I frequently change to a lower screen
resolution and then back to a higher one - this of course can cause your
icons to move around when they would have been placed off screen.

Hi,
Using ICON Saver at the moment - excellent utility - restores icon
positions at startup then quits itself so isn't even left running in the
background.
Thanks
