I recently got this error message, when I was trying to find out why I can't
download large programs...or any program now.

I tried all of the suggestions on this site:
http://www.mvps.org/serenitymacros/repair.html

And these are 2 of the big errors I got & don't know how to fix, any ideas?

http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/975/nocprogramde7.gif

I wouldn't have notice anything wrong with my pc, until I tried to d/l Real
Player
I'm using Mozilla & IE5  with 98SE

I found this info, and the Shell32 file is there, but when do I do after I
find it?

Missing files

Replacing missing/corrupt Windows files using SFC (System File Checker)
The information provided here is for the sole purpose of replacing missing
and/or corrupt Windows files.  All of the Windows files are in compressed
cabinet files that are known as CAB files. They will be on your Win98 CD in
the Win98 Folder, or if you purchased a machine with Windows pre-installed,
they may be on your machine in the directory c:\windows\options\cabs.
To find the file needed to be reinstalled, go to Start > Find > Files and
Folders.
In the Named box type:  *.cab
In the Contain Text type:  the name of the file
In the Look In box:  Point the path to the WIN98 Folder on the CD or the
directory on your machine that contains the cab files.
When found, note/write down the path and name of the cab file that the
file being installed is located.

What happens when you try to download anything?

In IE it won't open, or it says that program is corrupt and with mozilla I
use Fresh Devices downloader, and it can't connect to anything in order to
d/l it.

Something I noticed with the last/latest version of Fresh Download: it did
NOT work with 98 / IE6 and my firewall. I reverted to *Leechget 2004*. Why
it would not work was not followed beyond a cursory check and a few
modifications to the firewall.

For testing purposes, in Mozilla, disable Fresh Download and let the browser use its
native download ability.  Sometimes download managers can cause problems with
downloads.

In IE what exactly do you mean by "won't open"?  Are you saving to disk, or trying
to run the download from the current location, i.e. the server?  Do you get any
errors or messages in IE?

Ok, I've disabled Fresh Download.

When I used to dl in IE I would get messages that said it couldn't be open,
nothing specific,

But just now I got this error message:
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/3281/setuperrirjb9.gif
On a program d/l in IE. and saved to my hard drive.
I got the same message the first time, when I had it set to Run from the
current location

Thanks for any and all help!

i was just looking over some of the stuff that lead me here....

The stub error in this message
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/wildJazie/RS/realplayerproblem.gif
and now I just tried to see if stub.dll is in my CAB's, and its not.

I get this error when I tried regsvr32ishell32  in RUN
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/wildJazie/RS/regsvr32ishell32-2.gif

with regsvr32 shell.dll I got this
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/wildJazie/RS/regsvr32shell.gif

And I still get this error
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/wildJazie/RS/regsvr32ishell32-2.gif

I have considered getting a registry cleaner, but I can't d/l anything.

I'm using WIN98SE

OK, you are not showing me anything to indicate that you are having a problem
downloading.  What you are showing are indications you are having a problem
INSTALLING something.  The error in the link you gave is a "Setup" error stating
"This program cannot be installed on a Server edition of Windows"

Obviously, you are downloading and then running the downloaded program, hence
getting into Setup and getting the error you posted.  The message indicates that you
have a Server edition of Windows rather than Win98, OR that you have downloaded a
version of a program that is not for Win98 and Setup is confused at what it finds.

Please provide a URL (link) to the origin of the download you are trying to get.

The "ExtractNow" error you posted in your other reply is also an error AFTER a
completed download....you are attempting to extract files already downloaded.  It
looks to me like you are either downloading and attempting to install a
non-compatible version, or a corrupted download.

I am at a loss as to why you are trying to re-register the dll's you mention for a
problem like this.

Yes, Your right, I can't install anything...sorry I'm not used to all off
this techie talk.

This is the program I tried to install and open when I got the Server error
http://www.liutilities.com/products/campaigns/affiliate/offer/dllfiles/rb/

And I have a regular, desktop version of WIN98SE, At this point I think
maybe I did something wrong by either deleting or downloading something that
makes it think its a Server version.

I re-registered the Dll's becuz I thought they where corrupt and that was
why things aren't working right. One of those self-help sites gave me this
idea.

Sorry for confusing you, and thanks for trying to help me.

Besides being a snake oil app ("defrags the registry"...puhleese!), it does not work
with Win98 or any other Win9x family OS.

Please read the FAQ before downloading stuff:

RegistryBooster 2 - Feature Overview

Windows XP

Forget about this "utility" and all others of its ilk.
Try practicing the idea of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Now what other issues are you having with installations, other than this
non-compatible product?  Perhaps we can figure out if anything is in fact wrong at
all, and if so, how to fix it.

You mentioned having a problem installing RealPlayer....my immediate reaction to
that is, that's not a problem, that's good luck.  RealPlayer and RealOne are
intrusive nagging bloated apps that are only really needed to play one particular
set of media file types.
Try Real Alternative instead:

ok, deleted RealPlayer and got Real Alternative, but it won't play all
sounds...
Heres the thread I tested it on, the icons to the right of the images are
sound files

http://p098.ezboard.com/fgarboandgatorgamesfrm83.showMessage?topicID=1.topic

When I d/l'ed it, I set it to play all audio & video.

And yes, I got to DL it and it installed  Yah !!!
glee - 28 Jun 2007 05:45 GMT
When you installed Real Alternative, there was an option to configure its settings
when you closed the installer when it finished.  If you did not use that option, do
so now:
Start> Programs> Real Alternative> Configuration> RealMedia
You can select your connection speed, and click Apply.  You should not need to
change any of the other settings.

I assume you are referring to Media Player Classic's Options, when you state that
you set it to play all audio and video.  Is that correct?  (The full installation
for Real Alternative includes Media Player Classic...file formats can be selected in
Media Player Classic under the View menu> Options> Formats.).

The sound files on the web page you linked are all Wave files (.wav).  They should
open in Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player, depending on with which app
you have chosen to associate .wav files.

What happens when you click on one of those icons at the page you linked?
