Rbdfoxes - 22 Jul 2007 19:58 GMT Where can I get a download for a new Win98 CD? Mine (that came with the computer) is cracked and I need it to set up a wireless network. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
PCR - 22 Jul 2007 20:22 GMT | Where can I get a download for a new Win98 CD? Mine (that came with | the computer) is cracked and I need it to set up a wireless network. | Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks! (1) I guess you can try contacting MS & tell them yours is cracked. Swear to them some day you will buy an irradiated XP-machine, & perhaps they will replace that. Otherwise...
(2) Check whether the .cab's actually are already on your hard drive. At a DOS Prompt, enter "DIR /s /a C:\base4.cab", thus...
C:\>DIR /s /a C:\base4.cab Directory of C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS BASE4 CAB 168,960 04-23-99 10:22p BASE4.CAB 1 file(s) 168,960 bytes
It tells you the folder that has Base4.cab. Go to that folder in Explorer. If it has a ton more .cab files & a Setup.exe file-- that's it! You've got it!
(3) Otherwise, you must go to EBAY & see whether you can buy one.

Ron Badour - 23 Jul 2007 01:42 GMT MS has not replaced CDs in a year or so--don't bother calling them. I provided another response in the other newsgroup you posted to.

Buffalo - 24 Jul 2007 22:36 GMT Borrow one and make a copy of it. Or, if you can find one, do as I did and just copy the CD to your HDD, if you can spare the room. Then the next time that Windows wants you to insert the CD, just point it to that location and you won't have to bother using the cd.

Then you use the cd copy of the Win98 cd that you made. Sorry, I should have worded it differently.
Gary S. Terhune - 26 Jul 2007 16:38 GMT Not legit, since that would constitute a second installation of that same copy of Windows.

Since the OP has their own license, I don't believe that there would be a problem using another persons Win98 cd and making a copy of it. Isn't the license the sticking point?
Gary S. Terhune - 26 Jul 2007 18:53 GMT *Technically* no.

Can they get married, then, like in that movie, & make it legal?

PCR - 26 Jul 2007 21:39 GMT | What movie? Details, please! You should know better by now! "I Now Pronounce You Moe & Larry". It seems a tad extreme to go that far, though! I'm not actually recommending it!

Gary S. Terhune - 26 Jul 2007 22:24 GMT It will be a while before I see that movie (if ever). Only one theater within 90 miles and I don't like it. I wait for movies to hit one of the Showtime channels on my Dish.

I just HOPE OP can get a quick & amicable divorce by then-- if the measure was unnecessary!
