You must install "burning" software to perform such functions.  In most
cases, such software is sold with the drive.

Two excellent sources for details of the way CD recording works in
general, with technical detail, are:

CDinfo.exe
==========

CDinfo.exe is a tool that can determine the ability of a CD-ROM drive to
successfully read a disc.  It is a console application you should run in
an MS-DOS window.

1. Click Start, click Run, and then type:   command
2. Press ENTER.
3. At the command prompt, type:
   <CD-ROM driveletter>:\tools\pssutil\cdinfo.exe
4. Press ENTER.

*Note :

To save this information to a text file, type the following at the
  command prompt:

<CDROM DRive>:\tools\pssutil\CDinfo.exe >C:\tstinfo.txt

and then press ENTER. This saves the output of this test to the
Tstinfo.txt
file on drive C on your computer.
