Removable HDD

the harddrive on my computer shows "Removable Drive"
though the Windows ME are on it and it still is the C
C drive. this is the only HDD, I have a Zipdrive D.
the Restore does not work and the Trash is not being
recognized. thanks

In this case, it's not surprising the neither SR nor the recycle bin are
working, since neither can work with removable drives.

Try this
Reboot to Safe Mode (ESSENTIAL you're in Safe Mode for this!!)
Open Device Manager
Remove ALL HDD's
Remove ALL IDE controllers
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the drivers.
Then check the HDD properties again.
